How to Give a Great Romantic Massage!

Be prepared:

  1. Get soft new, high thread count sheets
  2. Candles - preferably unscented, soy and away from where they can be accidently knocked over - add a romantic mood.
  3. Get some unscented, hypo-allergenic skin lotion
  4. Soft, romantic music
  5. If you find your hands get tired, you can use a roller or other massage aid.

Massage tips and technique

  1. Spread a soft towel on the bed to protect the bed from massage oils or lotion. You can warm the towel in the clothes dryer right beforehand!
  2. Warm the massage oil by Setting the bottle into a bowl of hot (but not boiling) water.  Putting massage lotion in the microwave is NOT a good idea. Skin lotion works well because it is good for the skin, is not greasy, won't stain or make a mess and is available everywhere. Some people prefer oils instead. Good oils to use include coconut oil, grape seed oil, jojoba oil, or almond oil.
  3. If you know your partner likes a certain scent and is not allergic to it, you can get some essential oils and put a few drops (that's all it takes) into about 1/4 cup of the lotion in a bowl and mix well.
  4. Light the candles, put them in a safe place where they won't get knocked over, drip wax, nor are near anything flammable
  5. Turn on some soft romantic music, preferably your honey's favorite!
  6. Now, the fun part: Your honey gets naked...
  7. Start massage with your honey laying face down, beginning at the neck and upper back.
  8. Ask if there are any injuries and tender areas you need to avoid.
  9. How to massage? The palm of you hands, and thumbs generally work best. Basically do what felt good to you the last time you had a massage.  Everyone's different, so ASK your partner what he or she likes! And then do that! Use a variety: Percussive strokes which are brief, repetitive contacts with parts of the hand. Use your cupped hands, your palms on the knuckle side of your hands to make the contact. Kneading, like kneading pizza or bread dough, is a perfect technique!
  10. Feel for knots and press gently but firmly on the to help work them out.
  11. Avoid pressing on unprotected bones and organs!  That is, avoid the spinal column itself!
